Mendocino County's not so well kept secret. The word is out. Philo is booming with cool things to see, do, eat, and imbibe. Boonville's rich history and casually cool accommodations and dining are worth the stop along the way to the coast. Hendy Woods state park is an easily accessed grove of ancient redwoods, and the area's wine is world class. Pinots and Alsace wines get lots of press, but the selections of sparkling wine are superb, as are the offerings of all of the 50 or so wineries along Highway 128. So much to explore.
